La Fiera, nata da un’idea di Giuseppina Travaglio, vedrà quest’anno la cura artistica di Gianluca Marziani, neodirettore di Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive Spoleto e curatore del Premio Terna. Teatro di Artekne 2010 saranno le lussuose suite e il meraviglioso parco naturale a picco sul mare del luxury Hotel Santavenere, struttura a cinque stelle di categoria superiore. L’arte sarà il propulsore centrale dell’evento, la musica e le performance aggiungeranno l’energia funzionale del dinamismo, un simposio e una mostra amplieranno gli angoli visuali del progetto. Diversi eventi vedranno coinvolti autori e operatori giovani ma già affermati, secondo una filosofia che caratterizza l’edizione del 2010: centralità per gallerie e progetti che seguono le attitudini più innovative del presente.
IL TEMA DELLA SECONDA EDIZIONE
Il tema di quest’anno sarà IDENTITÀ IN MOVIMENTO: per la sua seconda edizione la mostra mercato riscopre ed esalta il dinamismo, a cominciare dal trasferimento di location. Se la prima edizione ha avuto come suggestiva cornice i Sassi di Matera, patrimonio mondiale dell’Umanità, il secondo appuntamento avrà come sfondo l’aspra e incontaminata costa di Maratea, perla del Tirreno lucano. Quattro giorni da vivere intensamente, coniugando arte e natura, dialogo e mercato, eventi e suggestioni sensoriali.
Artekne è movimento che riproduce all’infinito altro movimento, accende cortocircuiti emozionali e culturali stimolando creative fratture di senso, sobilla il conflitto tra realtà e rappresentazione in una nuova visione dell’estetica contemporanea, pronta per aggiornare in progress le tradizionali categorie spazio/temporali della conoscenza.
GLI EVENTI COLLATERALI
E’ attualmente in fase operativa l’elenco definitivo di gallerie partecipanti. Sono invece confermati alcuni eventi collaterali: la compagnia SINEGLOSSA con lo spettacolo di teatro contemporaneo “Pneuma”, il gruppo jazz MARCO SMAIL, l’artista LUCIA GANGHERI. Un progetto installativo dell’artista EPVS, intitolato “Strawberry Field”, sarà, invece, un complemento plastico e interattivo, una sorta di scultura funzionale e abitabile che inviterà le persone ad un approccio sensoriale dentro la Fiera. Abitabile e interattiva sarà anche la grande installazione “Domus Aurea” dell’artista VINCENZO PENNACCHI, autore di una capanna/domus che darà molteplici spunti riflessivi sul tema di questa seconda edizione.
Gianluca Marziani curerà una mostra sul tema della seconda edizione. Sceglierà un’opera di un giovane artista tra le proposte di ogni galleria coinvolta, creando il progetto direttamente sul posto, fedele alla filosofia eventualista di una mostra mercato. Il giorno successivo all’apertura, ogni galleria esprimerà la sua preferenza tra le opere selezionate (non potendo votare, ovviamente, la propria opera), decretando così un vincitore finale. La galleria vincitrice sarà ammessa gratuitamente alla terza edizione della Fiera. Al contempo, l’artista vincitore avrà una mostra personale (con data da decidere) negli spazi della galleria Teknè di Potenza.
Il curatore artistico sarà al centro di un altro progetto: un simposio coi galleristi coinvolti, un vero e proprio confronto su un tema ormai imperativo di questi anni: come riformulare l’idea di una galleria d’arte nei giorni della crisi globale. L’evento sarà filmato e diventerà un documento web da distribuire attraverso il sito della fiera. Un ulteriore sviluppo del tema “Identità in Movimento”, il modo migliore per completare gli aspetti fieristici con una dimensione analitica di cui l’arte ha oggi bisogno.
GLI EVENTI ESTERNI
Il primo progetto collaterale presso spazi esterni sarà la mostra NATURACULTURA, ospitata, dal 4 al 30 settembre, presso gli spazi della Chiesa di Santa Maria de’Armenis di Matera. Il progetto è curato da 3 critici: Simonetta Angelini, Cristina Petrelli e Dario Ciferri. Angelini presenta i lavori di Daniele Camaioni, Giulia Corradetti, Rocco Dubbini, maicol e mirco, Ivana Spinelli, Rita Soccio e Rita Vitali Rosati. Petrelli presenta i lavori di Daniele Duranti, Carla Mattii, Sabrina Muzi, Giorgio Pignotti e Giovanni Termini. Ciferri presenta i lavori di: Roberto Cicchinè, Paolo Consorti, Armando Fanelli, Pastorello, Josephine Sassu e Gabriele Silvi.
“Naturacultura è un progetto che pone l’accento su uno degli argomenti più sentiti nel panorama artistico contemporaneo, quello del rapporto, appunto, tra Natura e Cultura. La Natura non deve e non può essere considerata solo dal punto di vista botanico o decorativo. Osservando i lavori esposti emerge una situazione di crisi, un allontanamento dalla natura che brucia come una ferita. L’essere umano deve tornare ad avere la consapevolezza che è parte della Natura, non è al di fuori di essa né al di sopra, non può né controllarla né modificarla o finirà per distruggerla.
A concludere gli eventi negli spazi esterni anche la mostra AltrOltre di SABATO ANGIERO, ospitatata presso il Museo Archeologico Provinciale di Potenza. Recente vincitore del Premio EcoArtProject, Angiero agisce sulla combustione e la modifica di libri e giornali, dando nuove qualità estetiche e ulteriori percorsi concettuali ai contenitori di cultura e informazione. Come dice Toti Carpentieri “Angiero riconosce al fuoco lo status di medium artistico, e la capacità di modificare l’oggetto, che acquista – in tal modo- una nuova forma. Scompaiono, quindi, la notizia e la conoscenza, e nell’olfattivamente non gradevole – l’attimosfera della carta bruciata, rimane solo la memoria, sempre più labile e diluita, dell’una e dell’altra, localizzando l’opera in quel contesto culturale, economico e politico in cui le sue componenti si sono manifestate ed attuate, facendo sì che l’interpretazione sia e non sia, al tempo medesimo, provvisoria e definitiva , esclusa ed approssimativa, muovendosi dall’ Oltre all’altrO…”
IL CURATORE ARTISTICO
Gianluca Marziani è un critico/curatore che si occupa di arti visive contemporanee.
Ha la sua base a Roma. Lavora dovunque lo portano i progetti. E’ stato nominato direttore artistico di Palazzo Collicola, nuovo museo per l’arte contemporanea di Spoleto. Cura il Premio Terna, oltre ad aver curato sei edizioni del Premio Celeste, Ecoart Project e altri premi per l'arte contemporanea. Realizza lezioni, convegni e conferenze in accademie, università ed altri luoghi prestigiosi. Dal 2008 gestisce il corso di arti visive presso lo IED di Roma. Ha curato molteplici mostre in gallerie e in alcuni tra i più importanti musei italiani, pubblicato due libri di riconosciuto valore teorico ("N.Q.C.", "Melting Pop"), oltre ad un notevole numero di cataloghi. Diverse le monografie pubblicate con case editrici di riconosciuto valore (Skira, Electa, Damiani, Drago, Castelvecchi…). Durante gli anni ha portato l’arte contemporanea in televisione (Tele+, Stream, Raidue), radio (Radiodue), quotidiani (LaStampa, Il Riformista), riviste di settore (Flash Art, Tema Celeste…), magazine ad alta tiratura (Specchio, Panorama, Time Out, Numéro, GQ, Style, Style Piccoli), magazine di culture contemporanee (Duel, Time Out, Hot, Blue…), web, home video…
E' tra i fondatori del mensile NextExit. E’ consulente per i magazine NextMag e Fefè.
Cura consulenze di progettazione culturale per aziende e multinazionali. Ha collaborato col Comune di Roma e altri comuni italiani per l'attività artistica giovanile. E’ consulente per le arti visive di alcune importanti agenzie di comunicazione. Ha curato per l'Italia la prima edizione del progetto internazionale "Cow Parade". Ha vinto il Premio Magna Grecia (2005) e un A.B.O. d’Argento (2006).
LA STRUTTURA ORGANIZZATIVA
Arteknè nasce nel 2009 dalla volontà di due soggetti, l’Associazione Culturale ZOE e la Galleria d’Arte Contemporanea TEKNE’, dando vita ad una Fiera d’Arte Contemporanea in Basilicata. Questa Mostra Mercato intende essere una fiera in movimento, organizzata ad anni alterni tra Matera e Maratea (PZ). Non soltanto, quindi, un contenitore aperto delle espressioni artistiche ma anche un momento di vacanza per conoscere una Regione ancora poco conosciuta.

The curator of this fair, conceived by an idea of Giuseppina Travaglio, will be Gianluca Marziani, the new-director of Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive Spoleto as well as the “Premio Terna” curator. The luxurious suites and the wonderful natural park high up above the sea almost lapping the Santavenere Hotel, a luxury five-star hotel, will be the theatre of Artekne 2010. Art will be everywhere, music and performances ARTEKNE 2010, Contemporary Art International Exhibition Market will take place from 24 to 27 September 2010 at the Luxury Santavenere Hotel in Fiumicello di Maratea, on the Basilicata Tyrrhenian cost.
will add some functional energy to dynamism, a symposium and an exhibition will broaden the visual angles of the project. There will be many events in which authors and young but well-known artists will have active roles, all this according to the leading philosophy of the 2010 edition: the centrality of galleries and projects focusing on today’s most innovative trends.
THE THEME OF THE SECOND EDITION
“Identity in movement” is the theme of this second edition: the fair rediscovers and puts an emphasis on dynamism starting from relocation. The first edition was held in the picturesque Sassi of Matera, a world cultural heritage, while the second will be held on the steep, uncontaminated coast of Maratea, a jewel set on the Lucanian Tyrrhenian sea. Four days to be lived intensely by enjoying art and nature, cultural exchanges and the market itself, the events and a strong sensorial fascination.
Artekne is a movement which reproduces movement up to infinity. It switches on cultural and emotional short-circuits by stimulating creative fragments of meanings which stir up the conflict between reality and representation with a new contemporary aesthetic angle which brings the traditional space-temporal categories of knowledge up to date ongoingly.
THE COLLATERAL EVENTS
The definite list of the participating galleries is being finalizing, while some of the collateral events have already been confirmed: the SINEGLOSSA Company staging a contemporary art performance entitled “Pneuma”, the MARCO SMAIL jazz band, and the artist LUCIA GANGHERI. An installation project by the artist EPVS entitled “Strawberry Field” will be a plastic and interactive complement, a sort of functional and livable sculpture offering the visitors a sensorial approach within the Fair. The big installation entitled “Domus Aurea” by the artist VINCENZO will also be livable and interactive. This artist has conceived a hut/domus which will encourage reflections on the theme of this second edition.
Gianluca Marziani will be in charge of an exhibition dealing with the theme of the second edition. He will choose an artwork by a young artist among all the proposals made by the galleries involved, so as to work out a project on the spot consistently with the possibilistic philosophy of a market exhibition. The day after the opening each gallery will choose an artwork among those selected (the galleries cannot choose their own works) so as to have a winner. The winning gallery will take part freely in the third edition of the market exhibition. At the same time the winning artist will be given the chance to have a one-man/woman exhibition (the date is to be fixed) to be mounted at the TEkné gallery in Potenza.
The artistic curator will be the linchpin of another project: a symposium with the managers of the art galleries, a real debate on a theme which is worthy of attention today: how to reformulate the idea of an art gallery taking the financial world recession into account. This event will be shot and put on the website of the market exhibition as a further development of the theme “Identity in Movement”. The best way to refine on the aspects concerning the fair with an analytical touch, which is really an unavoidable necessity for today’s art
EXTERNAL EVENTS
NATURECULTURE is one of the external projects of the fair. This will take place on the premises of the Santa Maria de’Armenis Church in Matera from 4 to 30 September. Three art critics are in charge of this project: Simonetta Angelini, Cristina Petrelli and Dario Ciferri.

Natureculture is a project which focuses on one of the most heartfelt issues of the contemporary art scenario, that is, precisely, the relation between Nature and Culture. Nature cannot and must not be considered only from a botanical or decorative angle. Observing the artworks exhibited a critical situation emerges, a separation hurting like a wound. The human being must recover his sense of belonging to Nature, being part of it; he is neither outside it nor above it, he can neither control nor modify it, otherwise he will end up by destroying it.
The other event is the exhibition entitled AltrOltre by SABATO ANGIERO which will take place at the Potenza Provincial Archeological Museum. This artist has just won the EcoArtProject award. His research activity focuses on the combustion and modification of books and newspapers so as to give new aesthetic qualities and further critical paths to the containers of culture and information. Toti Carpentieri says “Angiero gives the fire the status of an artistic medium able to modify the object which - in this way - acquires a new form. Therefore, news and knowledge disappear and only memory remains in the unpleasant smell of burnt paper. A memory which becomes feeble and watery, as far as news and knowledge are concerned, so as to localize the work in the cultural, economic and political context in which its components have expressed themselves and come true, making any interpretation temporary and definitive, excluded and approximate at the same time, shifting from Beyond to the Other …”
THE ART CURATOR
Gianluca Marziani is a critic/curator who is in charge of contemporary visual art.
He lives in Rome. He works wherever his projects lead him. He has been appointed art director of Palazzo Collicola, a new contemporary art museum in Spoleto. He is the “Premio Terna” curator, besides being the curator of six editions of “Premio Celeste”, “Ecoart Project” and others contemporary art awards. He organizes lectures and conferences in academies, universities and other prestigious places. Since 2008 he has been holding the course of visual art at IED in Rome. He has been the curator of manifold exhibitions both in galleries and some of the most famous Italian museums, he has published two books of a high theoretical value ("N.Q.C.", "Melting Pop") plus a noteworthy number of catalogues and several monographs published by prestigious publishing companies (Skira, Electa, Damiani, Drago, Castelvecchi…). Over the years he has been able to bring art to the attention of television (Tele+, Stream, Raidue), the radio (Radiodue), newpapers (LaStampa, Il Riformista), art magazines (Flash Art, Tema Celeste…), high-circulation magazines (Specchio, Panorama, Time Out, Numéro, GQ, Style, Style Piccoli), magazines of contemporary cultures (Duel, Time Out, Hot, Blue…), web, home video…
He is one of the founders of the monthly magazine entitled NextExit. He gives professional advice to the magazines NextMag and Fefè.
He gives companies and multinationals professional advice aimed at cultural planning. He has cooperated with the Municipality of Rome and other Italian municipalities in order to support and promote the activity of young artists. He gives professional advice to some important communication agencies as far as visual art is concerned. He was the curator representing Italy for the first edition of the international project entitled "Cow Parade". He won the “Premio Magna Grecia” (2005) and a silver A.B.O. (2006).
THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
ARTEKNE was started in 2009 by the ZOE Cultural Association and the TEKNE Contemporary Art Gallery in order to start up a Contemporary Art Market Exhibition in Basilicata. This Market Exhibition is meant to be a fair on the move since it will be held in both Matera and Maratea (PZ) in alternate years. Apart from containing all possible art expressions this event aims at offering an opportunity to enjoy a holiday by touring a region which is little known.
